  • Horace (Chuck) Barbee Corporal USMC 3rd Marine Division at Iwo Jima
    • Born in Lumberton NC. Enlisted in the Marine Corps 1942. Saw action in Bougainville, Guam and was an amtrac crew chief in the 3rd Battalion 28th Regiment of the 5th Marine Division at Iwo Jima and was in the second wave assault and landed his amtrac on green beach at the foot of Mt Surabachi.

  • Gilbert Doub Pfc USMC 3rd Marine Division at Iwo Jima
    • Born in East Bend NC. Enlisted in the Marines June 1944. He was with the 3rd Marines as an Infantry runner. Ashore Iwo Jima on D day + 4.
  • Walter Leonard USN Corpsman attached to USS Twining in support of invasion of Iwo Jima
  • Clive Miller 2nd class Boatswain Mate USN Attached to YMS -362 Minesweeper in support of invasion of Iwo Jima
    • Born in Hanes Town Forsyth county. First attempted to join the Navy at 15 years old. With parents permission, he joined at 16. He was a 2nd class boatswain mate assigned to the minesweeper YMS- 362 . He saw action at Iwo Jima, Midway, Guam, Saipan and New Guinea.
  • Jack Noffsinger Lt USN Chaplin attached to 3rd Marine Division at Iwo Jima
    • Born in Uniontown Pa. and joined the Navy in 1943. Attached to the 3rd Marine Division as a Chaplin. He held the last rites for many Marines on Guam and Iwo Jima.

    • Born in Lilly PA. enlisted in the Marines in 1942. He was assigned to the 3rd Marine Division. Went ashore Iwo Jima D day + 4. Wounded in action.

    • Born in Camden New Jersey and enlisted in the Marines in 1943. He was attached to the 3rd Marine Division and saw action on Guam, and was wounded in hand to hand combat on Iwo Jima.

    • Born in Montgomery county Virginia, enlisted in the Marines in 1943. He was attached to the headquarters and service battalion 5th amphibious corps as a military policeman. He saw action on Saipan and Iwo Jima.

    • Born in Germanton NC , enlisted in the navy in 1944. He was a 3rd class boilers mate on the USS Gillespie that saw action in the invasion of Okinawa, Pleiu and Iwo Jima.
